I’ve Created 321 factories, and provided 170,000 jobs created under 1D1F initiative – Akufo-Addo
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has recently disclosed a significant milestone in Ghana’s economic development strategy with the creation of 170,000 jobs under the ambitious One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative.
This announcement marks a cornerstone in the nation’s efforts to decentralize industrial activity and stimulate economic growth across its diverse regions.
The 1D1F initiative, introduced by President Akufo-Addo’s administration, aims to revolutionize Ghana’s economic landscape by establishing at least one industrial enterprise in each of the country’s districts.
The primary objective is to transition Ghana from an economy predominantly reliant on the export of raw materials to one focused on manufacturing, added value, and the exportation of processed goods.
According to President Akufo-Addo, the successful implementation of the 1D1F program has led to the establishment of 321 enterprises across the nation, significantly impacting employment and local economies.
Of these enterprises, 211 are new medium to large-scale industries, while 110 are existing businesses that have been revitalized through government-driven capital investments.
These revitalized companies have received substantial support to expand their production facilities and diversify their product lines, breathing new life into their operations and communities.
During a visit to Blue Skies Limited in Nsawam, a company benefiting from the initiative, President Akufo-Addo shared his enthusiasm about the progress of the 1D1F initiative.
He highlighted in a Facebook post the strategic importance of the development and revitalization of these 321 projects, which now span 142 districts across all sixteen regions of Ghana.
This broad coverage represents an achievement of fifty-four percent district coverage under the program, inching closer to the ultimate goal of full national coverage.

The President emphasized the creation of approximately 170,000 jobs by these operational enterprises as a testament to the initiative’s effectiveness in fostering economic activity and reducing unemployment across the country.
This job creation not only alleviates poverty but also enhances the standard of living for many families, contributing to the overall economic stability and growth of Ghana.
The 1D1F initiative has been pivotal in promoting regional economic equality by ensuring that industrial development is not confined to urban areas but is spread evenly across the country.
This decentralization effort is crucial in preventing rural-urban migration, which often leads to overpopulation in major cities and the neglect of rural areas.
Furthermore, by focusing on various sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and processing, the initiative supports the development of diverse industries tailored to the unique resources and capacities of each district.
This approach not only maximizes the utilization of local resources but also encourages innovation and entrepreneurship at the district level.
The success of the 1D1F program can also be seen as a catalyst for attracting more private sector investment, as the presence of government-backed industrial ventures decreases the risk associated with new investments and encourages private investors to contribute to the economic development of these districts.
As Ghana continues to develop and implement policies aimed at sustainable economic growth, the 1D1F initiative stands out as a model for other nations looking to decentralize industrial activities and stimulate economic development across their regions.
