WAEC meets MoE and GES ahead of WASSCE 2020 – All the updates here
The West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) has started discussion modalities for the upcoming 2020 WASSCE for senior high students.
The consultation between the examination body and the Ghanaian stakeholders is aimed at critically examining the options on the table for WASSCE 2020 candidates from Ghana who are to report to school from June 15th ahead of the exams scheduled for 17th July 2020.
The coronavirus outbreak compelled The West Africa Examination Council to put the exams on hold in all the five member countries.

Ghana had considered the possibility of writing a country-specific exams head of the other West African countries should the country ease restrictions ahead of them.
According to Agnes Teye Cudjoe, the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC-Ghana, the outfit will conduct the WASSCE 2020 and BECE 2020 for final year students in Ghana. In her own words, she said: “WAEC will be conducting exams for candidates who will be taking the WASCCE and the BECE [Basic Education Certificate Exams]. As of now, we are still in discussions as to whether any of the member countries will join.”
A new timetable will be published as soon as an agreement is reached but according to Agnes Teye Cudjoe the discussions are still at the preliminary stages and students as well as the general public will be updated when the stakeholders have reached a consensus.
However, she also revealed that Ghana will go ahead and conduct the WASSCE this year if they don’t arrive at a conclusion.
BECE finalists in JHS 3 who will be returning to school at the end of June are also billed to take their exams to get them ready for admission into Senior High Schools. The BECE is written by Ghana only and is organized by the WAEC hence it is not as challenging as the WASSCE in terms of decision making Mr. Teye-Cudjoe stressed.
Whiles SHS form 3 students will have six weeks of preparation before writing their exams, the BECE candidates will have 11 weeks of final preparation ahead of the examination.
