Save private schools, teachers salary – GNAPST, GNAPS to Nana Addo
According to an officer of the Ghana National Association of Private School Teachers, many of its members have not been paid their salaries for March and many more can not be assured of their April salaries.
In an interview with Hot FM 93.9, Douglas Archer a member of the leadership of GNAPST said “Some of our members have not being paid March 2020 Salaries, now that we are home, how will they feed themselves…We have families and children who take care of”
This has made life difficult for private school teachers and so he called on the government to come to their aid.

The aftermath of the lockdown and closure of schools on private school teachers is disheartening as more and more teachers in private schools are feeling the impact of the lockdown.
Many of these teachers whose contribution towards building a literate generation are among the most hit in this COVID-19 period.
In a related development, owners of basic and second cycle private schools across Ghana are requesting for a suspension of their quota of SSNIT contributions for their employees’ social security following the closure of schools on the back of coronavirus outbreak in the country.
In their current circumstance, Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) said their members are not only “unable to pay their employees’ salaries, many cannot make statutory payments in respect of SSNIT”.
This is because private schools depend on fees which parents cannot pay as their wards are at home.

In the area of education thus learning in the lockdown and restrictions, he said, they are doing a lot to help students learn at home and also have many upcoming plans to help learners while at home.
He added that they are looking forward to hearing some good news regarding private school teachers from the president and government during his 7th COVID-19 address to the nation.
Our investigations show that many private schools have created WhatsApp platforms for reaching out to students with lessons during this lockdown and restricted movement period, others with the needed IT infrastructure are reaching out to their students via virtual classrooms. However, the same cannot be said for public schools. This calls for the need to quickly introduce primary and JHS lessons on GL TV.
The government’s effort at ensuring continuous learning through iCompus online learning platform and the GL TV is commendable however, many more cannot access due to the system rejecting their registration credentials. The least said about those in villages, areas with no internet and electricity access and television at home, the better.

It’s about time government should have a say in private schools matters. Some schools are in existence for quite long now but are not ready to do the right thing. They are all using COVID19 as excuse. Some schools must be closed down . most schools dont have the minimum to opperate . but they are opperating . this is the time for them to prove what they are capable of but they cant.
