The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has taken the initiatives towards the nkoko nketenketen program
The nkoko nketenketen program which was highlighted by his excellency John Dramani Mahama during his campaign toward the 2024 election has been initiated as stated.
He has announced a plan aiming at boosting the production locally made chickens in Ghana. This plans as well aims at lessening the country’s dependency on imported chickens. At the official launch of the Feed Ghana Programme in Techiman, Bono East Region, Mahama introduced the ‘Nkoko Nketenkete’ initiatives.
“Ghana imports almost $400 million worth of chickens every year. We all must be ashamed of this”, the President remarked, stressing the urgent need to invest in local production systems. The Nkoko Nketenkete initiative, which means comprehensive poultry, will be carried out alongside the Poultry Farmers Association.
This initiative focuses on supporting crucial parts of the poultry industry. It includes areas such as hatcheries, where chicks are born, and feed mills that produce chicken food. The initiative also covers veterinary services, providing care and treatment for animals, and processing centers where chickens are prepared for sale.
“Our poultry farm- to- table project, mostly known as nkoko nketenketen will be implemented in collaboration with the Poultry Farming Association to support hatcheries, feed mills that produce chickens. This initiative taken from the government is a good one and that funs and siders agree with this.
Comment from one supporter states that “good initiative from the government but my only worry is those who will be leading and the farmers as well. The President has done his part it is up to us to make sure it progress to the next level so we will all benefit from it. “
