Mr Minister and Deputy Minister of Education, Director General of GES,UNIVERSITIES COUNCIL,ACADEMIC BOARD OF UCC,UEW,KNUST etc, GNAT, NAGRAT, CCT, ATAG:
Please we want to get things clear on qualification to teach at any level of education in Ghana. Some directors of education are frustrating most of us teachers at GES.
Their actions on qualification to teach is making other teachers who want to top-up have a reverse thought on how to go forward.
We want to state few things we know about qualification to teach and wait patiently for corrections.
We have people who offered DIPLOMA IN BASIC EDUCATION (DBE).
Some acquired their certificate through Colleges of Education, Distance model,Sandwich Model and regular model at the University.
These class of people are to teach at Basic Level thus Primary One to Primary 6.These class of Diploma holders are call GENERAL DIPLOMA HOLDERS.
Related: HOT SCHOLARSHIP
We equally have people who offered DBE but specialized in the following areas:SCIENCE,MATHEMATICS, VOCATIONAL SKILLS,TECHNICAL SKILLS,ICT,SOCIAL STUDIES,LANGUAGES. Those who specialized are to teach at JHS1-3.
We have DBE holders who did their top-ups program at the University and acquired DEGREE IN BASIC EDUCATION.
Related: Teachers Cry…Say No
Once you have Degree in Basic Education, you have only enriched your knowledge at the Basic Education level whether specialized or not, you are to teach at the BASIC 1-9.
We have people who offered DBE and top up at the universities to offer Bachelor Degree in specialized areas of studies at the SHS level.
Such people include those in the Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, Social Studies, Languages etc.
These people mostly have their major(s) and Minor(s).Example who studied GEOGRAPHY, ECONOMICS, HISTORY, CRS,ELECTIVE MATHEMATICS, ACCOUNTING, BUSINESS MANAGEMENT, HOME ECONOMICS RELATED etc.
All those who have had certificates in these areas whether Regular, Distance and Sandwich, Weekend, Evenings are all qualified to teach at any SHS level in Ghana.
Those who are regular are not better than Sandwich and Distance students. The interest is on The Content of Studies approved by NATIONAL ACCREDITATION BOARD.
It is the responsibility of National Accreditation Board and Academic Board of Universities who approves universities status and cancel certain program of studies.
We entreat students who wants to learn through these mode of studies to continue since the content studied is what qualify people to teach at any level in Ghana.
We equally pleading with Ministry of Education, Director General of GES,COUNCIL FOR TERTIARY EDUCATION, ACADEMIC BOARD OF UNIVERSITIES, GNAT,NAGRAT,CCT,ATAG and other stakeholders of Education to set the records straight on qualification to teach at any level in education in Ghana.
Thanks.
