BREAKING: Nigeria Postpones WAEC Exams For 2020 Indefinitely, What Next For Ghana’s WASSCE and BECE Candidates?

WASSCE 2020 time table
The Nigerian government has postponed the Senior School Certificate Examination organized by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) for 2019 amid coronavirus outbreak.
The Minister of state for education, Emeka Nwajubu, announced this during a press briefing monitored by naijaloaded.com.ng on Channels Tv.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is made up of five English-speaking West African countries, Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, and Liberia. Candidates from these countries are expected to seat for the 2020 WASSCE en route into tertiary institutions.
With this decision by the Nigerian government, Ghana is yet to finalize decisions on the fate of 2020 WASSCE candidates while some universities have ‘rejected’ the moves to admit students without the examination.
While students who are due to write the 2020 WASSCE and 2020 BECE wait for their fate, it is hoped that Ghana will come out with a well thought of modality and how to deal with the challenge confronting education as we battle COVID-19.
A Ghana National Exams for both 2020 WASSCE and 2020 BECE candidates will not be a bad option for Ghana with all the experience that the GES, MoE, the Colleges of Education and Nursing, Private and Public Universities and Ghana’s WAEC have, this should be possible.
