Mauritius Sets COVID-19 Record In Africa, Records Zero New Cases In The Last 15 Days
Mauritius has set an enviable COVID-19 record in Africa as it has recorded new cases in the last 15 days.
All infected patients in the country have recovered and are being discharged from the various health facilities they were isolated and treated for the virus.
This feat makes it the first in Africa in this regard. The last case in the country was reported on 27th April 2020 after some 73,572 tests were conducted by the country. It recorded 332 cases out of which 10 lives were lost. Out of the 53 infected countries, Lesotho had one case and has been declared Virus-free already.
This success story together with that of Madagascar must continue to inspire Africa to look within, learn from each other, and fight COVID-19 with a common front.
A win for Africa against this deadly virus is a win for the inhabitants of Africa. Africa must continue to look within in this struggle.
Africa’s cases have now stands at over 63000, the top five countries hardest hit by the virus as at today are
South Africa – 10,015
Egypt – 9,400
Morocco – 6,063
Algeria – 5,723
Nigeria- 4,399
Ghana – 4,263
It is rather pathetic that in some African countries including Ghana, politics has found it way into the fight against the disease. This unhealthy outcome has the potential to derail the efforts of government. The president of Ghana has further extended band on social gatherings, churches, schools and other related sectors until 31st May to ensure community spread is curtailed.
Other African countries must improve on their testing capacity to conduct more tests since it remains one of the surest ways to face the onslaught of COVID-19 and break the transmission. Isolating infected persons will further ensure the remaining population is not put at risk.
Its time to win, Africa must look within.
