Flashback: Lesson plans NOT Compulsory for Basic School teachers-NaCCA denies?
A recent publication by NewsGhana24 titled Lesson plans NOT compulsory for Basic School teachers has been denied by NaCCA. The Ghana Education Service and NaCCA will do facilitators (Teaches) schools and headteachers a lot of good if they come out with an official press release on the matter to settle the dust.
However, another message on the same issue has surfaced on social media purported to be emanating from the NaCCA. Just as NaCCA is denying the audio, teachers are refusing to accept the information.
The statement titled Confusion between Lesson Plan and Scripted Lesson reads:
It has come to the attention of NaCCA that an audio file purported to emanate from our outfit is currently being circulated on social media which suggests that from henceforth, the practice of lesson notes preparation by teachers has been scrapped.
Please be informed that we have never given out any directive to this effect.
In actual fact, the task of writing daily lesson plans has been simplified with the introduction of a template for writing the lesson plan in a weekly format. The new format whilst easy to develop and less cumbersome contains as many details to enable teachers to effectively teach lessons as the daily lesson plan format.

Teachers and other relevant stakeholders must be careful not to confuse the weekly lesson plan format with the format for the sample scripted lessons in the Teacher Resource Pack.
Many teachers hold the view now that Lesson plans not compulsory especially when they are been provided by other groups of teachers. Thus their work is made less stressful as all they have to do is to download the already prepared notes, study them and use them to teach their students.
The Scripted lessons in the Teacher Resource Pack are sample daily lessons that seek to educate teachers on how to effectively carry-out the learner-centered teaching approaches and associated assessment procedures enshrined in the new standards-based curriculum.
As an agency, NaCCA will continue to develop more scripted lessons to assist teachers to implement the new standards-based curriculum effectively.
Teachers are however required to prepare the weekly scheme of learning/lesson plan for inspection and vetting by the appropriate authorities.
This information is not signed and was not put on the letterhead of NaCCA or GES. It will be difficult for some stakeholders to work with it. We call on GES and NaCCA to manage its online presence, respond to some of these issues on time, debunk, or otherwise within record time to keep its communication path free from information that may not be coming from them.
