JB Danquah Killer’s Trial: Ursula Owusu-Ekuful ’s Name Pops Up in Court
The ongoing trial for the murder of Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu (JB Danquah), a former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, has taken an intriguing turn with the name of Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Minister for Communication and Digitalization, emerging during courtroom proceeding.
Defense lawyers, in a strategic move during cross-examination, have questioned why the police investigators “never disclosed the involvement” of Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful, weaving her into the fabric of this high-profile case.
Daniel Asiedu, also known as Sexy Don Don, the principal accused in the murder, alongside his co-accused Vincent Bossu, alias Junior Agogo, have both pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and robbery, with an additional charge of conspiracy to rob linking them together.
The defense’s line of questioning aimed to unravel the minister’s actions on a specific day when she allegedly drove two prosecution witnesses, both mobile phone repairers, from Dansoman to Kanda and handed them over to the police for their statements.
This detail raises several questions about the role Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful might have played in the initial stages of the investigation.
The defense lawyer, Yaw Dankwah, pressed Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Augustus Nkrumah, the 8th prosecution witness, on whether his investigation had uncovered any direct involvement of Ursula Owusu-Ekuful in the case.
ASP Nkrumah’s responses highlighted a gap in the investigation, revealing that while the minister’s action of driving the witnesses to the police was acknowledged, she was never asked to provide a statement herself.
This lack of direct inquiry into Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful’s involvement or her motivations for assisting the witnesses brings to light potential oversights in the investigative process.

The decision not to seek a statement from a key figure who played a part in connecting the police with crucial witnesses could be seen as a significant oversight, possibly affecting the depth and scope of the investigation.
The trial, adjourned to March 12, 2024, for continuation, promises more unfolding narratives and potentially more revelations about the involvement of high-profile figures.
The mention of Ursula Owusu-Ekuful’s name in court not only adds a layer of complexity to the case but also underscores the interconnectedness of politics, power, and the quest for justice in Ghana.
As the trial progresses, the public and the families involved eagerly await more clarity on the events leading to the tragic death of Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu and the roles various individuals may have played in the narrative.
