Accra, Ghana: Human Rights Reporters Ghana (HRRG) has opened opportunities for strategic partnerships and collaboration ahead of the 2027 edition of the HRRG Global RightsShield Awards, an independent international honours programme recognizing exceptional leadership, service and measurable contributions to human rights, democracy, justice, peace, inclusion, sustainable development and human dignity.
The move follows the successful inaugural edition of the Awards held in Abuja, Nigeria, in July 2026.
According to HRRG, the 2027 edition will build on the foundation established during the inaugural programme while expanding engagement with credible organizations, institutions, civil society networks and changemakers across Africa and internationally.
Recognizing Leadership and Social Impact
The HRRG Global RightsShield Awards were established to recognize individuals and institutions whose leadership, courage, innovation and service have created meaningful and lasting impact in their communities, countries and globally.
The Awards cover a broad range of areas, including human rights, democracy, justice, peace, civic leadership, digital inclusion, sustainable development and social transformation.
Those eligible for recognition may include public leaders, diplomats, civil society organizations, human rights defenders, academics, journalists, innovators, development practitioners, philanthropists and other changemakers.
HRRG Opens Partnership Opportunities
As preparations for the 2027 edition continue, HRRG is inviting credible organizations, institutions, foundations, civil society networks, universities, media organizations, development actors, corporate bodies, professional networks and other stakeholders to explore opportunities for collaboration.
The organization says the initiative is intended to strengthen the Awards’ international visibility, regional outreach, stakeholder participation and overall impact.
HRRG emphasizes that partnership does not necessarily require financial contribution.
Potential partners may contribute through professional expertise, networks, institutional connections, nominations outreach, media visibility, technical support, knowledge exchange, stakeholder engagement, resource mobilization, sponsorship or in-kind assistance.
Multiple Forms of Collaboration
HRRG has identified several potential partnership categories, including Strategic Partners, Civil Society Partners, Knowledge Partners, Institutional Partners, Media and Communications Partners, Regional and International Outreach Partners, and Sponsoring Partners.
Civil society organizations and networks, for example, may support nominations outreach and regional participation, while universities and research institutions may contribute knowledge, research and technical expertise.
Media organizations may support responsible publicity, interviews, storytelling and digital visibility, while regional and international outreach partners can help connect HRRG with credible stakeholders in different countries and regions.
Sponsoring partners may support specific award categories, events, production, outreach and other agreed programme activities through financial or in-kind contributions.
Partnership Does Not Affect Independence
HRRG has stressed that the expansion of partnerships will not compromise the independence or integrity of the Awards.
The Global RightsShield Awards remain an initiative conceived, founded, owned, organized and administered by Human Rights Reporters Ghana.
HRRG retains responsibility for the governance, administration, programme direction and integrity of the Awards.
The organization says all nominations, assessments and final selections will be conducted through an independent and transparent process guided by established governance principles, ethical standards and merit-based evaluation criteria.
Partners may support outreach and recommend deserving individuals or institutions, but no partner will be guaranteed an award or permitted to influence the independent selection process.
Building a Global Platform for Recognition
HRRG says the Global RightsShield Awards are intended to go beyond the presentation of awards.
The organization envisions the programme as a platform for recognizing impact, connecting changemakers and amplifying positive contributions to society.
Through broader partnerships, HRRG hopes to promote cross-border networking, knowledge exchange, stakeholder engagement and greater visibility for individuals and institutions contributing to human rights and positive social transformation.
The organization is particularly interested in partners who can contribute networks, expertise, regional reach, institutional connections, visibility, technical support, resource mobilization, sponsorship or other meaningful forms of collaboration.
Invitation to Prospective Partners
HRRG is inviting interested organizations and individuals across Africa and internationally to explore partnership opportunities for the 2027 edition.
The organization says each partnership will be discussed individually based on the prospective partner’s interests, capacity, geographical reach and area of expertise.
