Ghanaian player arrested for alleged murder of two police officers
A shocking incident in East Trasacco, Ghana, has led to the arrest and remand of Ghanaian player Ganiu Iddrisu and four other individuals, linked to the alleged murder of two police officers.
This tragic event occurred on May 2, 2024, and has since drawn significant attention due to the nature of the crime and the involvement of a known sports figure.
The case unfolded when Ganiu Iddrisu, along with a gardener, a public servant, and an Arabic translator, were arrested under suspicion of their involvement in the fatal shooting of two off-duty police officers.
These officers, identified as L/Cpl. Tasigya Ngapun Isaac and Constable Benjamin Tindum, were reportedly seated in front of their private residence near the Hakska Block Factory in East Trasacco, East Legon, Accra, when they were killed.
During the court proceedings on May 8, 2024, Chief Inspector Margaret Ofori Boadi of the Legal and Prosecution Unit at CID Headquarters provided details of the suspects and the alleged conspiracy.
The accused individuals are Mohammed Alhassan Damba, a public servant; Chinkor Abdullah Alhassan, a foreman and Arabic translator; Alex Appoh, a gardener; Bright Nana Kwame Owusu, a worker at Hakska Block Factory; and Ganiu Iddrisu, the footballer.
Chief Inspector Boadi urged the court to remand the accused as investigations were still underway, highlighting the severity and premeditated nature of the crime. She explained that the group, along with others still at large, conspired to carry out the killings around 6:30 pm on the day of the incident.

The defense, led by Counsel Nelson Noble Adedawonu, countered these claims by requesting bail for the accused, arguing that the charges lacked substantial backing, particularly pointing out that the first accused was not present in the jurisdiction at the time of the crime.
He stressed that the individuals arrested were wrongfully implicated and had no knowledge of the crime committed in East Trasacco.
The presiding judge, Prince Osei Owusu, after hearing arguments from both sides, decided against granting bail, citing jurisdictional constraints.
He advised the defense to seek bail from a higher court and adjourned the case to May 20, 2024, to allow further investigation and deliberation.
