Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko Have Joined Quest On Ways the Ghana Premier League Can Be Improved.
In a joint statement published by Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko, some proposals were stated for which the Ghana Football Association (GFA) can use to improve on the standards of the Ghana Premier League and even make it better.
The two most successful clubs in Ghanaian football, Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko, together in a joint statement with the date 7th February 2025, made proposals to the GFA for which they can use to make the Ghana Premier League better. These proposals came as a result of the bloody incident that happened in Nsoatre, a town in Ghana, when Kumasi Asante Kotoko, the away team, played Nsoatreman, the home team, in the Ghana Premier League week 19, leading to a Kotoko supporter being stabbed to death.

In the joint statement released by both clubs, Kumasi Asaante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak listed 13 proposals the Ghana Football Association can use in the betterment of the Ghana Premier League (GPL). Out of the 13 proposals, one of them is expected to be put in place for the time being, which is temporary. 8 are expected to be put in place sequentially, and the last 4 are expected to be put in place as soon as possible. 1. The GFA should take control of all security arrangements at various league centers.
2. The Gbadegbe Commission report must be fully implemented.
3. The number of police personnel deployed for category A and B matches should be at least 100.
4. 20 military men should be deployed to category A matches and some category B matches.
5. Security personnel must be from other stations in the region and not from the locality of the match venue.
6. Security cameras must be installed at all league centers.
7. A new risk assessment must be undertaken to categorize matches well.
8. A match scheduled at a league center that does not meet the criteria for hosting matches of that category should be moved to an appropriate venue.
9. The club licensing department should define new minimum standards that all Premier League match venues must meet.
10. The league should be run by an independent management team.
11. The GFA should work towards the exemption of match proceeds from VAT and other similar deductions.
12. The GFA should disclose to the management of Kotoko and Hearts before the commencement of the league the number of matches it will be televised to ensure the fair percentage of revenue.
13. Kotoko and Hearts should automatically be represented on the GFA Executive Committee.
