According to the police, Ghanaian women who refuse their husband’s sex could be charged up to 500 penalty units thus GH¢6,000.00 or both if they are charged for emotionally abusing their husbands.

Such women may also be jailed not more than 2 years for the same offense or both. But to you believe domestic violence against men is real?
Mr George Appiah-Sakyi who is the Central Regional Coordinator of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), made the revelation. He called on husbands to lodge formal complaints with the Ghana police so that the law will deal with them.

He was quick to add that, the same law is enforceable against men who also deny their wives sex. These violations are grounded in law and amounts to emotional abuse punishable under the Domestic Violence Act 732 of 2007 he added.
“If your wife wears jeans to sleep and causing you emotional abuse it’s an offense and you can report her to DOVVSU,” he stated.

This information was passed on to Ghanaians during a sensitization workshop for church leaders in the Cape Coast Metropolis. The workshop covered issues such as terrorism and other security issues.
From the above, it is evidently clear that Ghana is taking human rights violations seriously and the citizenry are been empowered with information and education on their rights to help bridge the inequality gap in favour of both men and women.

In Ghana and in many places, men who are abused by their wives never come out to report such occurrences for fear of being mocked and seen as weak but revelations such as this by the police officer must empower men to voice out all manner of violations they suffer in the hands of women.
