Trump announces halt of funding to WHO
Trump announces halt of funding to WHO pending review of coronavirus response. During a briefing on Tuesday, President Trump slammed the World Health Organization for its response to the global coronavirus outbreak and announced his administration would be halting funding pending an investigation.
“Today I am instructing my administration to halt funding of the World Health Organization,” says President Trump in today’s #pressbriefing
Trump accused the WHO of “severely mismanaging and covering up” the coronavirus crisis, adding that the U.S. “has a duty to insist on full accountability.”
“With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have deep concerns whether America’s generosity has been put to the best use possible,” Trump said at a briefing in the Rose Garden.
“American taxpayers provided between $400 million and $500 million per year to the WHO. In contrast, China contributes roughly $40 million a year, or even less,” Trump said Tuesday.
Trump beleives that WHO failed to adequately obtain, vet, and share information in a timely and transparent fashion. … thus The WHO failed in this basic duty and must be held accountable.
