The World Sustainability Organisation launches responsible mining certification in Ghana

Ghana, a global leader in gold production, is making significant strides to change its mining sector towards significantly. Through the establishment of regulatory frameworks, environmental protection measures, and economic empowerment programmes; the country is paving the way for international certification in the mining sector.
As demand grow louder and measures are put in place towards sustainability in Ghana’s mining sector, globally top sustainable development firm has launched the Sustainable Mining Certification to improve efforts towards Ghana’s gold sector in connection with global standards of environmental, economic, and social sustainability. This reform indicates World Sustainability Organisation’s emphasis on transparency and accountability in the supply chains of the mining sector.
Sustainable mining takes place in a manner that mitigates the effects on the surrounding environment and leaves mine sites in an acceptable state for re-use by people or ecosystems. The recent policy change of the government, including tighter license reviews and enforcement against destructive resource extraction, reflect a dedication to ecosystem protection.
These actions align with the World Sustainability Organisation WSO certification principles which require preservation of biodiversity, sustainable land use, and responsible resource extraction.
Over one million Ghanaians rely on artisanal and small-scale gold mining; this certification would not only place gold from Ghana more world-class market presence, but also draw in sustainable investors and sustainable luxury shoppers increasingly concentrated on accountable and responsibly sourced minerals.
“Sustainable mining is crucial for ensuring the long-term viability of the industry, protecting the environment, and benefitting local communities. It ensures long-term viability of mining operations, minimises environmental impact, and promotes the well-being of local communities.
By embracing World Sustainability Organisation WSO Sustainable Mining Certification companies and regulators in Ghana’s mining sector will demonstrate commitment to sustainable practices in mining.”
Paolo Bray, the Founder and Director of the World Sustainability Organisation, drew to attention that the importance of the Friend of the Earth Sustainable Mining Certification is programmed to have on mining companies in Ghana, and the ability to assist the government efforts in sanitizing the mining sector.
