Officially, The National Tripartite Committee including representatives from the government, Organised Labour/Association, and employers begun its discussion to set the minimum wage for 2025.
The National Tripartite Committee on Monday, February 3rd, 2025 started the negotiations which are aimed at determining the minimum wage rate for the upcoming year. Following the minimum wage negotiations, talks will extend to the base pay for the public sector salaries. Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the acting spokesperson to the President noted that the negotiations for both wages categories are behind the schedule.
Under the Public Financial Management (PFM) Act, they were expected to be concluded by April 2024 to inform the 2025 national budget. The possible outcome of the negotiations is expected to influence economic planning and wage adjustments across the various sectors in the country. In accordance with section 113(1)(a) of the labour Act, 2003 (Act 651), the National Tripartite Committee increased the national daily minimum wage from GHS14.88 to GHS18.15 effective January 1, 2024.
Again from the statement, both the delayed minimum wage and base pay for the 2025 financial year are expected to be completed soon as it was scheduled to be completed in April 2024. Also, the government led by His Excellency John Mahama is calling on all social partners to work quickly to complete this negotiation.
