Head Teachers in Free SHS collecting 5kg of Omo, 2 tins of milk and a scrubbing brush. This the latest revelation newsghana24.com has gathered from an all-important teacher’s platform on social media.
It looks as though gov’t is trumpeting the Free SHS so loud yet, it is unable to provide the basic necessities of life for the school children in the secondary schools. This has compelled some headteachers to strategically request students to provide all manner of items to keep the schools running.

One commentator on the said platform revealed and wrote:
My brother told me headmaster academics of their school announced all SHS 2 students should bring one bulb each if they want to get the light to learn with. It has been a practice in the school since the inception of the free SHS.
So if they have 1800 students, he is taking 1800 bulbs. Is it the responsibility of students to provide bulbs?
Additionally, they are required to register every term with 5kg of omo, 2 tins of milk and a scrubbing-brush.
GES what are you doing about this. The extortion by some heads of schools is becoming too much.”
Very typical of Ghanaians, genuine concerns that should be worrying tone political lines and this was the case with this sad revelation.
Other commentators did not see anything wrong with the request and added that the headteacher cannot use his or her personal funds to procure such things hence it was ok for such demands.
“You want the headmaster to use his own money to buy a bulb for u right? U want everything free, abeg buy it because they don’t get anything from your parents nor the government.”
