‘Bentua’ a weapon in coup plot? Mahama mocks. Already there is a #CoupChallenge going on on social media.
John Dramani Mahama, former President of Ghana and NDC’s 2020 election flag bearer has added his sense of humor to the #CoupChallenge.
He applauded Ghanaians for the great sense of humour after the news of an alleged coup broke in last week.
According to him, he got to know that “bentua” could be used as a weapon in a coup plot in Ghana.
Social media has been loaded with tonnes of pictures and videos on the #CoupChallenge with all manner of basic tools on display to show the weapons each person who entered the challenge was going to use. Some tools used were cooking utensils, carpentry tools, pestle and mortar, bread knife, tooth peak, pegs for drying clothes and herbal medicine bottles.
These were among others that they playfully said could be used to stage a coup in Ghana.

He said he has also joined the challenge #CoupChallenge and explained how weird weapons could be helpful in a coup.
“There was this challenge going on of people showing possible weapons that can be used in a coup d’etat. There was this one that was very intriguing because there was the wooden spatula that is used to stir banku that we popularly call ‘Bankuta’…. and I said well possible; that can be used as a so you can hit the guy at wherever you’re going to attack with the bankuta and he may fall unconscious,” he joked.
So far the security agencies have arrested five persons suspected to be the masterminds behind the attempted coup.
Kweku Baako a veteran journalist also revealed that he has watched videos of the last 15 months operations of the group and that there was a clear indication that they wanted to overthrow the government.
