Service Disruptions Expected for Telecel Users Due to Power Supply Issues
ATC Tower (Ghana) Ltd has announced it will no longer provide power to Telecel’s equipment installed at several of its tower sites, leading to potential network service disruptions for Telecel users in Ghana.
This development follows Telecel’s failure to meet its agreed obligations.
In a press release shared with ModernGhana News, ATC Tower (Ghana) Ltd disclosed that the lack of power supply to Telecel’s equipment would result in significant service interruptions.
ATC Ghana explained that their inability to continue powering Telecel’s equipment stems from Telecel’s failure to uphold their end of the contractual agreement.
“ATC Tower (Ghana) LTD deeply regrets to inform residents and business users on the network of Ghana Telecommunications Company LTD (Telecel) that they may experience some level of service disruption due to ATC Ghana’s lack of capacity to continue providing power supply to Telecel’s equipment, installed on a number of ATC Ghana’s tower sites, as a result of Telecel’s failure to satisfy its agreed obligations,” the statement read.
The decision to cut power comes after extensive negotiations between ATC Ghana and Telecel, as well as notification to the National Communications Authority (NCA).
ATC Ghana highlighted that the financial strain caused by Telecel’s non-compliance has made it impossible for them to purchase the necessary electricity and diesel to maintain Telecel’s equipment, particularly for agreements that have already expired.
Despite the disruptions, ATC Ghana expressed its commitment to working with all stakeholders to support the growth of the telecommunications industry in the country.
They emphasized their willingness to reach a mutually acceptable commercial solution with Telecel to restore services.
“ATC Ghana remains committed to working with all stakeholders for the continued growth of the telecommunications industry. We remain open to a mutually acceptable commercial solution with Telecel to facilitate the restoration of services to Telecel’s equipment,” the release stated.

As Telecel users brace for potential service disruptions, the situation underscores the importance of meeting contractual obligations within the telecommunications sector.
The failure to do so not only affects service providers but also has broader implications for end-users who depend on consistent and reliable network services.
ATC Ghana’s announcement serves as a reminder of the complex interdependencies within the telecommunications infrastructure.
It also highlights the critical role of power supply in maintaining seamless network operations.
As negotiations continue, stakeholders and users alike will be keenly watching for developments that might resolve the impasse and restore full service functionality.
In conclusion, while ATC Ghana’s decision to cut power to Telecel’s equipment was a last resort following failed negotiations, it remains hopeful that a resolution can be reached soon.
Both companies need to find a sustainable path forward to minimize the impact on Telecel users and ensure the continuity of essential telecommunications services in Ghana.
