The manager of renowned Ghanaian chef Ebenezer Smith, known as Chef Smith, has come forward to assert that they received an official email from the Guinness World Records (GWR) office declaring Chef Smith a record holder.

In an interview with Accra-based Hitz FM on July 3, 2024, Benny, Chef Smith’s manager, confirmed that he possessed an official communication from GWR affirming Chef Smith’s record.

The controversy began when Chef Smith initiated his ambitious cooking marathon on February 1, 2024, at the Amadia Shopping Centre in Spintex, Accra.

He cooked continuously for 820 hours, ending the marathon on March 6, 2024, although he initially aimed to cook for 1,200 hours.

On July 2, 2024, Chef Smith announced during a press conference in Accra that he had been recognized by GWR as a record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

However, GWR’s Public Relations Manager, Madalyn Bielfield, quickly refuted this claim, stating that the certificate presented by Chef Smith was not authentic.

Bielfield confirmed that the current record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual still belongs to Alan Fisher, not Chef Smith.
