Road Tolls Set to Be Reintroduced.

The new government of the Republic of Ghana led by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to reintroduce road and bridges tolls in Ghana.
In a press statement released by the Ministry Of Roads And Highways earlier today suggest the ministry’s intention of bringing back or reintroducing the road tolls system. The Akuffo Addo government canceled the road toll collection system in Ghana in the year 2021 to ease traffic congestion which was caused on our roads. They later introduced a new form of tax collection after the cancelation of the Road Tolls which they named as the E-Levy which simply was a tax imposed on the sending of money using the electronic means (MOMO). Despite the cancelation of the road tolls system in the year 2021, the then Finance Minister in June 2024 announced plans of the NPP government bringing back the road and bridge tolls but to no avail.
Earlier today the Ministry of Roads and Highways under the new government released a press statement clearly stating the introduction of the road and bridges toll. It was stated in the press release that the reintroduction of the road and bridge tolls will help generate revenue for road maintenance and related matters. They also added that the ministry is putting together the modalities for a modern, technology-driven toll system and will also ensure they employ an open, transparent, competitive, cost-effective, and fair procurement process.
