Prof. Mitchual inducted 5th VC of UEW
Professor Stephen Jobson Mitchual, a distinguished expert in Wood Science and Technology, was officially inducted 5th VC of the University of Education, Winneba, during a formal ceremony held at the university last Friday.
Prof. Mitchual brings over twenty years of experience in academia and administration to his new role as the university’s vice-chancellor. During the official ceremony, he was adorned in ceremonial attire, seated in the vice-chancellor’s chair, and presented with the staff and medallion to mark the beginning of his tenure.
Rev. Dr. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, gifted Prof. Mitchual a Bible and oil as symbols of his faith, offering prayers for a successful term in office.
In his inaugural speech, Prof. Mitchual announced plans to introduce a College of Medical and Aligned Sciences and a Law School to enhance the university’s academic offerings. These new faculties aim to cater to the changing needs of the community and provide a wider range of educational opportunities.
He urged all stakeholders to collaborate in fostering academic excellence, innovation, and inclusive growth at the university. Prof. Mitchual emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards in teaching, learning, and research, promoting a culture of critical thinking and intellectual curiosity among students and faculty.

To achieve these goals, he pledged to revamp the curriculum to align with national and international requirements, enhance research activities, and encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and technology-driven solutions. Prof. Mitchual also highlighted plans to invest in research infrastructure, faculty development, and strategic partnerships to advance the university’s mission.
Prof. Mitchual has made a commitment to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of university life. He emphasized the importance of creating a welcoming and inclusive campus environment where every member of the community feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives and talents towards the growth of UEW.
According to Prof. Mitchual, under his leadership, every individual’s role is crucial in achieving the overall vision of the institution. Therefore, the university will embrace diversity and celebrate differences among its workers.
During an address, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, a Deputy Minister of Education, paid tribute to the past principals and vice-chancellors who have worked tirelessly over the last three decades to establish the university as a reputable institution for teacher training and education.
Rev. Fordjour congratulated Prof. Mitchual on his induction, stating that it marked a new dawn for the university. He also expressed the government’s support and called for the new administration to utilize all available resources for growth.
Furthermore, Rev. Fordjour emphasized the need to adopt 21st-century education to propel the nation towards accelerated development. The government is committed to increasing access to education and promoting science, technology, and mathematics education.
The Chancellor of the university, Neenyi Ghartey VII, who is also the Omanhen of Effutu Traditional Area, expressed confidence in Prof. Mitchual’s wealth of experience in academia and his commitment to the core values of the university.
