Meet Ghana’s youngest SHS student, only 10 yrs old
Master Michael Blair Tasiamo is Ghana’s youngest SHS student as at now. The youngest SHS student is only 10 yrs old according to sources.
The reality is that children at age 10, should be in primary 4 or 5 but Michael Blair Tasiamo is in SHS 1. He is a General Science student as well and that makes it an interesting story.
This information popped up on social media after the regional qualification for the NSMQ in Accra.

It looks like the directive of the GES that, pupils in JHS1 and JHS2 should not be registered for the BECE is not even working and so, children as young as 10 and 9 are being smuggled into the BECE.
If the BECE registration systems and quality assurance mechanisms cannot check some of these anomalies it may create problems in the future.
Master Michael Blair Tasiamo sat for the 2019 BECE and gained admission to the Frafraha Community SHS in Accra. He is just 10years old and this makes him the youngest Senior High School student in Ghana today.
Ghana and Nigeria are the only countries that write the BECE after three years of Junior High School Education. How many years did he spend in Preschool, Primary and JHS is the question many are asking.
The BECE exams is administered by the Ghana Education Service under the Ministry of Education.
The new directive comes on the back of the recent story of a 13-year-old student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ruth Ama Gyan-Darkwa, who sat for the BECE at the age of nine while in JHS One
Students have gained admission into the University of Ghana and KNUST at the age of 12 and 13 respectively and the names that come to mind are KNUST’s Ruth Ama Gyan-Darkwa, who sat for the BECE at the age of nine while in JHS One at Justice International School and a 12-year-old boy for Ghana, Viemens Bamfo turn internet sensation after he got admission to the University of Ghana in 2019.
As we celebrate Ghana’s youngest SHS student, it is important the GES, MoE, and WAEC come out clear on at what age a student can sit for the BECE irrespective of his or her brilliance.
