‘I will make sure Central region turns green by winning convincingly in both the presidential and parliamentary elections’- Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang
Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer’s running mate, has declared that she will collaborate with the party’s grassroots members to ensure a resounding victory in the Central Region’s parliamentary and presidential elections.
Speaking to a group of party executives in the area last Thursday, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang exhorted party members to put in a lot of effort and stick with the party’s mission in order for it to win the elections on December 7.
As a native of the area, she promised to put in endless effort alongside other party members to win the region for the party. “As a loyal native of the region, I have resolved to make sure the region turns green by winning convincingly in both the presidential and parliamentary elections,” she stated.
Representatives from the Central Regional Council of Elders, members of the regional parliamentary caucus, and regional and constituency executives attended the event, which was hosted at the University of Cape Coast’s School of Graduate Studies.
The Forum
Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader, Nana Sam Brew-Butler, the Chairman of the Central Region Caucus in Accra, and the party’s parliamentary candidates from the area were present at the forum.
The forum discussed the party’s goal of winning at least 20 parliamentary seats in the area. Currently, the party holds 13 of the 23 seats in the area.
Additionally, it served as a means of raising funds for the party’s operations and the local voter registration drive.
Anticipatory 20 seats win
“We want to win 20 seats. We should not be complacent about the idea of a stronghold and the fear that we have not won this or that constituency before, we will rest on our oars. Our party is replete with stories of how we were able to overcome and win in areas that we thought were impossible,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang revealed.
In the best interests of the party, she emphasized that party members should move forward in unison rather than clinging to past deeds or statements, as this will be crucial to the party’s future march to success in the next general election.
Prof. Richard Asiedu, the NDC’s Central Regional Chairman, stated that every attempt was being made to guarantee that the region supported the party, emphasizing that “the gains will be monumental for both presidential and parliamentary elections.”
