Government plans to build three new regional hospitals in 2026 for Oti, Savannah, and Western North

The Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, has made it clear that the government is going to commence the construction of three new regional hospitals in the Savannah Region, Western North Region and the Oti Region in 2024.
Mr. Agyemang-Manu emphasized that the construction of these three regional hospitals will strengthen how people get medical access in the country.
As he was speaking about the debate in Tuesday concerning the 2024 Budget in Parliament, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, who is also a Member of Parliament (MP) for Dormaa Central, said the new initiative is a broader effort to make sure that every region in Ghana without a regional hospital would have one.
Kwaku Agyemang-Manu also made it clear that the government has already paid GHS 7.4 billion into the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). So the payment will be made on time to those who are needing support for care. The amount allocated to the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) will sustain the operations of the health insurance scheme. The debate pointed out some sharp differences over how healthcare is being funded in the country.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Effiduase Asokore and the Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Health Committee, claimed that three distribution centres which is operated by Zipline were about to close down their service at the beginning of November 25, 2025.
Dr. Nana Yaw Afriyie said that the centres which are located at Sefwi Wiaso in the Western Region, Krachi in the Volta Region and Anum in the Eastern Region had been severely affected all because of the un-paid debt by the government. The arrears amounted to GHC 23 million. Dr. Afriyie cautioned that distant towns and villages that depend on the drone deliveries for blood products and important medicine will be severely affected by the suspension services.
Dr. Afriyie disagreed with the statement of the Health Minister on the disbursements of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) by saying that only GHC 4.5 billion had been released and not the GHC 7.5 billion disclosed.
