Gospel star and evangelist in legal showdown over defamation claims

Ghanaian gospel musician Empress Gifty Adorye has filed a defamation lawsuit against self-proclaimed evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa. The case, filed at the Tema High Court on May 20, 2025, seeks GHC20 million in damages for false accusations and false report.
According to court documents shared by Empress Gifty’s husband, Hopeson Adorye, the gospel artiste is asking the court to stop Agradaa from making or sharing any further defamatory remarks about her. Gifty also wants Agradaa to delete all social media content videos and audios that contain the alleged defamatory statements.
In the suit filed through her lawyers, Osei Aidoh Akpokavie and Co., Empress Gifty claimed that Agradaa made false and damaging statements about her in live Facebook videos and other online posts. She believes these statements have hurt her image and reputation. Gifty has also requested that Agradaa pay for her legal fees and related costs.
In response, Nana Agradaa has reacted strongly to the lawsuit. In an Instagram video posted on May 21, she said she is not afraid of any legal action. According to her, the lawsuit will not stop her from speaking out, and she plans to hit back with a lawsuit of her own.
“Gifty Empress, let me tell you, you can go to court 100 times or 200 times, I don’t give a damn. I am not part of those persons you frighten them with legal matters. If you sue me 200 billion, I will sue your husband more,” she said.
She added that she will take her case to an international court, targeting Empress Gifty’s husband, Hopeson Adorye, whom she accused of also defaming her in the past. “I will sue your husband in international court and take dollars and change into cedis and gave you the balance in Cedis. The court is there for everybody,” Agradaa declared.
So far, Agradaa has not officially responded to the lawsuit in court.
