GFA Set To Unveil New $2m Broadcast Rights Deal For GPL
The Ghana Football Association, in unconfirmed reports, is set to unveil a new broadcasting deal worth $2m for the Ghana Premier League for 2 years.
Ghana Soccer Net, an online news agency in Ghana, has reported that the Ghana Football Association is preparing to unveil a new television broadcast partner for the Ghana Premier League, with the deal set to take effect from the 2025/26 football season.
In their report, they stated, “The Ghana Football Association is preparing to unveil a new official television broadcast partner for the Ghana Premier League with the deal set to start from the 2025/26 football season, Ghanasoccernet.com can exclusively reveal”.
The GFA is currently facing some financial challenges due to the lack of a broadcast deal for the various football leagues in Ghana this season, as their previous deal with the Chinese-owned pay TV StarTimes was not renewed. Reports have it that StarTimes owes the Ghana Football Association a total of $950,000.
Earlier this year, reports had it that the new sports minister under the new NDC government, Honorable Kofi Adams, is likely to bring on board South Africa-based sports channel Super Sports as the new television partner of the Ghana Premier League.
It is not confirmed whether the upcoming deal will include coverage of the Women’s League and even FA Cup games, as the previous deal with StarTimes saw the coverage of all these competitions.
