Double-track has encouraged truancy, we’ll abolish it – Ablakwa

The Member of Parliament for the North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has said the opposition NDC party in their next term of office will maintain Free SHS but annul double-track system.
The Akufo-Addo led government implemented the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy to make quality education accessible to every school-going Ghanaian child in the country.
President Akufo-Addo considering the large enrollment in Senior High Schools (SHS) introduced the double-track system to help control the number of students in various Senior high schools. He divided the tracks into two as Gold track and Green track.
Currently, form 2 Gold track students are in school to continue academic activities to equal the Green track students who just ended their semester before the outbreak of the locally transmitted coronavirus.
“But the former Deputy Education Minister speaking in a yet-to-be-aired interview with Fiifi Banson assured that the Mahama Administration will not nullify the Free SHS that has been widely accepted by Ghanaians should the National Democratic Congress win the forthcoming December 7, 2020, general elections”, as quoted by MyNewsGH
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa explaining further said the flagbearer for the NDC John Dramani Mahama will not rescind the double-track system because it disrupts the quality education.
He noted that the double-track system affects contact hours and leads to truancy since some students will be in school while others at home.
