Disappointed Alan verablly attacks Kufuor for supporting Bawumia
John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has publicly expressed his disappointment in his political godfather, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, for supporting Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia instead of him.
Alan, the founder of the Movement for Change, used a TV platform to verbally attack former President Kufuor after the latter openly declared his support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the December 7th election.
In the past, Alan had often boasted about having the full support of the former president. However, he was taken aback when Kufuor decided to endorse Dr. Bawumia over him.
While being interviewed on Oyerepa TV’s Election Field program, Alan Kyerematen voiced his strong disapproval of Kufuor’s public endorsement of Dr. Bawumia for the upcoming elections. He described the decision as disappointing and openly shared his frustration.
The Movement for Change flagbearer, appearing visibly upset, questioned why Kufuor, a highly respected figure in Ghana’s political landscape, would risk tarnishing his own legacy by endorsing a candidate Alan believes has contributed little to the country’s development.
“What has Bawumia really done for Ghana?” Kyerematen asked pointedly during the interview. “Aside from helping Nana Akufo-Addo lead us in a direction we are all not proud of, what has he achieved that warrants this kind of support from Kufuor?”
As a former Cabinet Minister under Kufuor’s administration, Kyeremanten took the opportunity to remind viewers of his own political track record. “I was one of the most effective ministers in Kufuor’s government. I earned his respect and the respect of many Ghanaians,” Kyeremanten said, emphasizing his contributions during his tenure.
His candidacy, which came after he lost the NPP flagbearership race to Bawumia, has added fuel to the growing tension within the party, particularly as Kyeremanteng questions Bawumia’s political achievements.
Kyeremanteng was clear about his disappointment with Kufuor’s stance. “I would have said a lot more if it wasn’t for the respect I still have for Kufuor,” he remarked, making it evident that while his frustration was deep, he chose to hold back due to his admiration for the former president.
“But how can you publicly support someone who has relied more on propaganda than on actual accomplishments?”
The current political landscape in Ghana has been heavily influenced by the divide within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), with Kyerematen’s party, The Movement for Change, serving as a direct challenge to the leadership of Bawumia, the NPP flagbearer.Travel packages
Kyeremanteng’s public disagreement with Kufuor has drawn attention to the internal rifts in the party, particularly among its old guard.
Kyerematen continued to express his astonishment at Kufuor’s decision to back Bawumia, implying that it could tarnish the former president’s reputation. “I have always respected Kufuor, but this action, in my opinion, undermines his own legacy,” Kyerematen stated, his voice laced with disbelief.
