Asantehene urges handlers of Bawumia to be truthful to him
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has ordered Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s handlers to be honest with him and not be swayed by personal interests.
He stated that the team should be able to be open with Dr. Bawumia if things were not going well so that he could re-strategise rather than leading him astray.

The Otumfuo stated that the goal should be the common interest of the team, and that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should be able to guide him on the campaign tour.

The Asantehene made the call during the Vice President’s campaign visit in the Ashanti Region, which included a courtesy call on him at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Wednesday [June 12].
Dr. Bawumia is the flag bearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Election 2024.
The Asantehene advised Dr. Bawumia to continue explaining his programs and ideas to the electorate in order to secure their support.
He stated that he believed Ghanaians would vote for him [Bwumia] if they were convinced by the message.
He stated that no government would be able to fix all of the country’s problems, but each would play an important role in allowing another to continue.
For the Asantehene, Bawumia’s candidacy provided a rare opportunity to tell Ghanaians about the government’s accomplishments and what he would offer if elected.
Trust
He stated that the moment has come for him to justify President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s confidence in him when he nominated him as Vice President.
Tax regime
Dr. Bawumia restated his aspirations to examine the tax regime and replace it with a flat tax for ease of compliance.
Currently, he claims that traders and enterprises have always been at odds with the Ghana Revenue Authority over their taxes, and that the system is somewhat convoluted, making compliance more difficult.
He claimed that implementing the fat tax system would make it easier for the private sector to pay while also lowering commodity prices.
Digital skills
He stated that his administration will create around one million employment for young people in digital skills like as coding and soft engineering, which might potentially include individuals with certificates.
With these abilities, he stated that the youth would not need to fly to the UK to work, but could do so from Ghana as long as they had access to a computer.
“Digital skills, creative arts, sports, and tourism are areas I want to invest in for all of us to benefit,” he said, adding that Ghana was well ahead of other countries in the subregion in terms of digitalization.
