Achimota Senior High School receives GHS1.5 million science laboratory equipment donation by 1975 & 1985 year group

The 1975 and 1985 alumni groups of Achimota Senior High School have provided invaluable support to their academic alma meter by making a generous contribution of GHS1.5 million for science laboratory equipment.
This kind donation is aimed at enhancing the quality of science education at the school to ensure that students enjoy privileged access to the required resources experimental education and research.
The provided equipment includes human anatomical model of that gives a systematic illustration of human organs and body structures to enhance biology studies. Further laboratory equipment includes beaker, a surveyor’s level on a tripod, glass flasks and a digital weighing scale were also among the donation. These laboratory tools will have a significant impact in improving practical education facilitating innovations and encouraging critical thinking among studentsGoing above and beyond the provision of laboratory equipments, the two alumni groups have also assigned an unrevealed amount of money to sponsor the continuous provision of laboratory equipments like reagents and chemicals.

The donation occurred simultaneously with Achimota School’s 98th Founders Day Celebrations making it a momentous occasion for both two alumni groups and the school. In addition, it was made up of the 40th and 50th anniversary celebrations of the 1975 and 1985 year groups. In accordance with the two alumni groups collaborative heritage project, they saw this as a doorway to give back to the school that was played a pivotal part in shaping their personal and professional journeys.
In the course of the presentation, Dr. Kwame Ampofo, the President of the 1976 Year group and Barbara Easmon, the President of the 1985 Year Group shared their inspiration for the initiative. They explained how over thousands of students pursuing science will be able to spend more time conducting experiments and improving their practical knowledge.
The two alumni groups have no doubt that by introducing students to state of art scientific tools and technology, in future students will be more prepared for academic and professional opportunities in STEM related fields. During the event, Joel Edmund Nettey, the National President of the Old Achimotans Association (OAA), acknowledged the two alumni groups for such a collaborative support which will help teaching and learning of science easier particularly in practical and experimental aspects.
