5 Private Companies That Have Submitted Bids for the Saglemi Affordable Housing Project
The Minister of Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has announced that five private companies have submitted bids to collaborate with the government on completing the 1,506 Saglemi Affordable Housing Units.
The Saglemi Housing Project, which began in 2016, has faced significant delays due to litigation.
As a result, the partially completed project has suffered from vandalism and theft, including the loss of fittings such as burglar-proof materials, plumbing works, and metal coverings on culverts.
In March this year, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah revealed that the Cabinet had approved a plan to resume and complete the Saglemi Housing Project, which had been initiated by the previous administration.
The five companies that have submitted bids to take on this task are Afro Arab Properties Ltd, Quarm-LMI Consortium, Dredge Masters-Titanium, Broll Ghana Ltd, and Masiltin Group.
These bids were received after an initial expression of interest by ten organizations.
The Ministry confirmed that the bids were submitted to the Technical Working Group on the Saglemi Housing project on July 8, 2024.
The next step in the process is the evaluation of these bids by an independent entity, which will be selected with the assistance of the Public Procurement Authority.
Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah emphasized that the evaluation process is designed to ensure transparency and fairness.
In a post on X, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah reiterated the government’s commitment to a transparent selection process.
He stated, “We are committed to transparency and fairness in the selection process, with the Public Procurement Authority assisting in choosing an independent evaluation entity. The successful developer will be tasked with completing 1,506 units and essential infrastructure. Completing the Saglemi project is vital for addressing Ghana’s 1.8 million housing deficit. Thank you to all stakeholders for their dedication and service.”

The selection and contracting process for the developer is expected to be completed by August 30, 2024.
This deadline reflects the urgency of addressing the substantial housing deficit in Ghana, which currently stands at 1.8 million units.
The completion of the Saglemi Housing Project is seen as a critical step toward alleviating this shortage.
The five companies involved in the bidding process each bring unique strengths and expertise to the table, and their proposals will be closely scrutinized to ensure that the best candidate is chosen to complete the project.
The selected company will be responsible not only for finishing the housing units but also for implementing the necessary infrastructure to make the community viable.
This renewed effort to complete the Saglemi Housing Project highlights the government’s dedication to improving living conditions for Ghanaians and addressing the housing crisis.
The transparent and fair selection process, as emphasized by Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, aims to restore public confidence in the project and ensure that it is completed to a high standard.
As the August 30 deadline approaches, all eyes will be on the Ministry of Works and Housing and the Public Procurement Authority to see which company is selected to bring the Saglemi Housing Project to fruition.
The successful completion of this project will be a significant milestone in addressing Ghana’s housing deficit and providing affordable housing to many families in need.
