Zoomlion Unveils its Latest Recycling and Compost Plant
Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan, Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, has inaugurated Zoomlion ’s new Integrated Recycling and Compost Plant in Sunyani.
This significant event was marked by a vibrant gathering of chiefs, community members, and officials at Nwawasua near Sunyani.
In her address, Hon. Alhassan, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wugon Constituency, commended the people of the Bono Region for their dedication to maintaining a clean environment.
She highlighted that the region, especially its capital, is consistently clean due to the proactive efforts of traditional leaders and the community.
Hon. Alhassan emphasized the importance of celebrating Ghana’s advancements in waste management infrastructure.
She acknowledged the Jospong Group’s impressive achievement of constructing 16 waste treatment and recycling plants across various regions in the past four years, with 10 already operational and six nearing completion.
She praised the Executive Chairman, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, and the Jospong Group’s team for revolutionizing waste management in Ghana.
She noted that the strategic creation of the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been instrumental in fostering an environment where private sector initiatives, like those of Dr. Agyepong, can thrive.
The Minister urged the residents of Sunyani to fully utilize the new facility by directing their waste there for processing and recycling.
She highlighted the benefits of composting organic waste for agricultural purposes and recycling plastics for various uses.
In her remarks, Hon. Ophelia Mensah Hayford, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MESTI) and Member of Parliament for Mfamsipim, discussed the global challenge of climate change driven by carbon dioxide emissions.

She pointed out that the efforts of the Jospong Group are a crucial part of mitigating climate change.
Hon. Hayford noted that the Government of Switzerland’s interest in involving Ghana in the carbon trade market is a testament to the Jospong Group’s impactful initiatives.
She called on Ghanaians to actively combat indiscriminate waste disposal and other behaviors that contribute to climate change.
Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies, reflected on the modest beginnings of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, which started in Bolgatanga with just one manual tricycle.
He attributed the company’s success to prayer, dedication, and resilience, expressing gratitude to God.
Dr. Agyepong also thanked the chiefs and people of the Bono Region, particularly the Nwawasua Chief and Queen Mother, for providing land for the facility, which will serve the entire region.
Dr. Agyepong drew parallels between President Nana Addo’s One District, One Factory (1D1F) initiative and Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s industrialization efforts in the 1960s.
He stated that his work aims to generate jobs and develop the private sector, contributing to national economic growth.
He also highlighted that the new facility will produce 150,000 tons of organic fertilizer annually, which will significantly benefit the agricultural sector in the Bono Region and beyond.
The inauguration of the Integrated Recycling and Compost Plant in Sunyani marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s journey towards sustainable waste management and environmental conservation.
Through collaborative efforts and innovative initiatives, Ghana is poised to make substantial progress in addressing waste management challenges and promoting environmental sustainability.
