Widows and Single Mothers Benefit from Justice Revived Foundation’s Community Legal Outreach

The Justice Revived Foundation (JRF), an NGO on Friday, December 19, 2025, organized a Community Legal Outreach and Donation Drive at the Kwabenya Senior High School, near the Atomic Roundabout, aimed at promoting women’s rights, legal awareness, and community empowerment.
The outreach brought together widows, single mothers, school children, teachers, and civil society leaders for legal education and empowerment, alongside financial literacy training, humanitarian support, feasting, and networking.
The Executive Director of Justice Revived Foundation, Mrs. Janice Tiwah Oware, Esq., personally led the legal discussion on spousal property rights, educating participants on their legal entitlements within marriage and after the death of a spouse, while outlining practical steps for seeking legal redress in the event of disputes.
Speaking to the media at the close of the event, Mrs. Oware said the outreach was informed by the growing challenges faced by widows, particularly in relation to property ownership following the death of a spouse.
“Women, especially widows, often face serious challenges from the extended families of their deceased spouses. By educating them on spousal property rights, we are equipping them with the knowledge to protect themselves and know when to seek legal advice,” she said.
She added that the program also emphasized financial literacy, encouraging women to cultivate a savings culture to strengthen their economic security.
As part of the donation exercise, about 30 widows and single mothers received food items and basic household essentials to support them and their children, especially as the festive season approached.
The Executive Director of Human Rights Reporters Ghana (HRRG), Dr. Joseph Kobla Wemakor, who attended the event, commended Justice Revived Foundation for delivering legal education at the grassroots level.
“This initiative demonstrates how legal knowledge can be used as a tool for human rights protection. Educating women on spousal property rights is critical to preventing dispossession and other violations, particularly after the death of a spouse,” Dr. Wemakor stated.
He urged policymakers, civil society organizations, and development partners to support similar community-based legal education initiatives across the country.
Mrs. Oware expressed confidence that the outreach would have a lasting impact, citing the positive response from beneficiaries and the foundation’s commitment to expanding its reach.
Looking ahead, she announced the foundation’s flagship project for next year—the Maiden Women Powered Conference, a comprehensive empowerment program designed to address multiple aspects of women’s and children’s lives through both advocacy and practical vocational skills training, including makeup artistry, soap making, and sewing.
She further called on corporate organizations, institutions, and individuals to partner with and support the foundation’s work, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and impact.
The event concluded with feasting and networking, reinforcing community solidarity and Justice Revived Foundation’s mission to promote justice, empowerment, and social inclusion.
