Vice-President hands over 75 buses to Senior High Schools

Vice-President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as part of his government effort to improve secondary school education has handed more than 75 buses to Senior High Schools (SHSs) across the country.

President Nana Akufo-Addo’s right-hand man at a brief ceremony at the Accra Senior High School on Thursday, May 26, 2022, also handed over the keys to five pickup trucks to head tutors of the beneficiary Second cycle schools.

The beneficiary Senior High Schools (SHSs) include Lambussie Community Day SHS, St James Seminary, Begoro Presby SHS, Techimantia SHS, Odupong SHS, Asankragua SHS, Wa SHS, and Koforidua Senior High Technical School.

Others are Kpasenkpe STEM SHS, Accra Academy SHS, Anum Boso SHS, Tepa SHS, Northern School of Business, Osino Presby SHS, Oti Boateng SHS, Tarkwa SHS, Asare Bediako SHS, Assin North SHTS and Bosomtwe Girls STEM SHS.

This is the second time in the 2022 academic year that the Vice-President on behalf of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo led government has donated buses and pickup trucks to some selected Senior High Schools in the country.

Mr Bawumia at a vehicle handing over ceremony in February said the automobiles form part of an ongoing effort by the government, through the Ghana Education Trust Fund to increase access to education for every Ghanaian child.

Dr Mahamudu also noted the vehicles among other things to be given to schools are to provide the necessary infrastructure and logistics to create a conducive environment for teaching and learning in various secondary schools.

Commenting on the distribution of the vehicles, the Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum said the effort form part of the central government’s effort to improve quality education anchored on a robust education system.

“The initiative is to improve access to quality education anchored on a robust education system training a critical mass of students empowered to be active participators in our country’s socio-economic transformation,” he told the media.

As the Minister in charge of Education, the Bosomtwe Member of Parliament said he is confident that the brand new vehicles will improve the mobility of our teachers and learners, and strengthen the effective administration of schools.
