Information reaching Ghanaeducation.org reveals that teacher shortage has hit Santrokofi Gbordome LA JHS in Oti Region and is seriously affecting teaching and learning.
While many qualified teachers wait anxiously to be posted, schools such as Santrokofi Gbordome LA JHS in the Guan District of the Oti Region struggle to cope with teacher shortage.
Residents in the area fear that, if care is not taken, the school may not be able to boast of any teacher. The sad situation has been compelled by the poor school infrastructure, which does not make the school attractive to teachers posted.
The leadership of the PTA in the school has bemoaned the effect the situation is having on teaching and learning.
Chairman of the School’s Parents Teachers Association, Micheal Attu in an interview said, ” the situation is negatively affecting academic activities at the school”.
The current state of the school is a result of the neglect by the Ghana Education Service to renovate or improve the infrastructure, which has become a disincentive for teachers posted there. In fact, the current structure and environment are not good for teaching and learning.
Every effort to get the Ghana Education Service to take steps to work on the current sad state of the school has fallen on deaf ears. Today. The school has to rely on the benevolence of members of the community to get basic teaching and learning materials.
Chairman of the Parents Teachers Association, Micheal Attu in an interview with GBC news disclosed that the school sometimes depends on other Schools in the Community for teaching and learning materials. He said several appeals for support to renovate and expand the school’s infrastructure have not yielded a positive result.
Mr. Attu called on the government through the Ministry of Education and benevolent organizations to come to the aid of the school to enhance education delivery.
