Stop Indoctrinating Students; Afenyo Markin to Teachers
MP Urges Teachers to Keep Politics Out of the Classroom Ahead of 2024 Elections
As the 2024 December elections draw near, the Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has urged teachers in the area to refrain from indoctrinating students with their political ideologies.
Speaking during the distribution of laptops to teachers from the Effutu municipality as part of his one-teacher-one-laptop initiative, Afenyo-Markin emphasized the importance of maintaining a neutral and healthy educational environment.
According to the Majority Leader, such practices can polarize the educational environment, creating acrimony among students and potentially damaging the learning process.
He urged teachers to debate their political views in a respectful and constructive manner, without letting it get out of hand.
“We need to educate our children in a healthy atmosphere, not one that is polarized by politics,” Afenyo-Markin said. “We should be able to engage in respectful debates and discussions, and then take a break and enjoy each other’s company. That’s the beauty of democracy,” He added.

Afenyo-Markin also highlighted the importance of using the laptops effectively, urging teachers to make good use of them to research and impart knowledge.
He noted that the tablets are a valuable resource for teachers, particularly in this era of Artificial Intelligence, and that they will help to bridge the gap between what teachers know and what students are learning.
The MP also drew attention to the availability of libraries in Effutu, which provide teachers with access to resources that can aid their teaching. He encouraged teachers to take advantage of these resources and use them to educate their students effectively.
The distribution of laptops was part of Afenyo-Markin’s one-teacher-one-laptop initiative, aimed at supporting teachers in Effutu and providing them with the tools they need to deliver high-quality education. The initiative is seen as a major step forward in promoting education and improving academic outcomes in the area.
In conclusion, Afenyo-Markin’s message to teachers is clear: keep politics out of the classroom and focus on providing your students with a quality education. By doing so, we can create a healthy and respectful learning atmosphere that everyone can benefit.
