Schools should get ready for the 2022 World Read Aloud Day – Mr Mathias Tulasi

The CEO of Literacy Ambassadors Ghana (LAG) in person of Mr Mathias Tulasi, has called on schools in the country to put measures in place so as to mark the upcoming World Read Aloud Day slated for Wednesday February 1, 2023 on the theme ” Read Aloud. Change the World.”
The full statement below
World Read Aloud Day, is a day set aside where people across the globe share stories together to advocate for literacy as a basic human right that belongs to all manner of people.
The day is to motivate children, teens, and adults to celebrate the power of words.
As this global event would be taking place in two weeks time, the entire membership of Literacy Ambassadors Ghana in collaboration with Sanitation and Literacy Ghana, expect everyone to celebrate the day by grabbing a book, finding an audience and reading out aloud.
In schools, we are appealing to teachers to spread the power of reading by creating awareness in their respective communities about the World Read Aloud Day prior to its celebration.

During the celebration, they should let pupils or students bring their favourite story books, magazines, scripts, newspapers, brochures, flyers, journals etc and let them to choose an excerpt and read it aloud to the class.
Additionally, teachers can hold classroom discussions about the power of literacy and how (worldwide) at least 793 million people remain illiterate and what must be done to reduce the number drastically in the years to come.
To make it more interesting, they should help pupils or students to compose interesting and very educative songs on reading.
Together, we will shape and change the future of education across Ghana through literacy promotion.
