Sammy Gyamfi Apologizes for Dollar Gift to Nana Agradaa Captured in Viral Video

Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), has addressed widespread public criticism following the viral video showing a him gifting Nana Agradaa money. The footage, shows Agradaa approaching Mr. Gyamfi’s vehicle and requesting US dollar notes. He is then seen counting several bills, which Agradaa snatches and displays to onlookers nearby.
The incident has sparked mixed reactions across social and political circles, prompting Mr. Gyamfi to respond via a statement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). In his post, he sought to explain the context and express regret for how the gesture was perceived by the public.
“I sincerely thought that I was doing this act of kindness in private and never imagined that the same could find its way into the public space. That is unfortunate and regrettable,” he wrote.
Mr. Gyamfi further clarified that the gesture was in line with his long-standing personal practice of helping those in need.
Describing the issue as emotionally difficult, he acknowledged the criticism; particularly from members of his own political camp and gave a formal apology.
“I understand the uproar that this gesture has generated, particularly from comrades who are sincerely hurt by it. To all such comrades, I AM SINCERELY SORRY for this unfortunate act of indiscretion. I respect and appreciate your views,” he stated.
Amidst the backlash, he also took a moment to appreciate those who had reached out to offer encouragement and support. He expressed gratitude for their support during what he called a trying time.
Reaffirming his commitment to public service, Mr. Gyamfi emphasised that his understanding of public office remains unchanged.
“My view of public office as a privilege to serve society, solve problems, and help others has not changed,” he affirmed.
He concluded his message on a reflective note, extending kind wishes to the public and recognizing the significance of the day. “Stay blessed and have a blissful Sunday. Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out here.”
