Prof Jane Naana storms Wa Market to engage traders
Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) running mate, has asked Upper West Region traders to actively support the party’s flag bearer, John Dramani Mahama, for the position of Ghana’s next president.
According to the Vice-Presidential Candidate, the NDC and the former President remain the greatest options, particularly for traders looking to maximize the economic benefits of their trading activity.

Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang was speaking in Wa after taking her campaign to the Wa market on the eve of Eid-ul-Adha, where she was greeted with applause and a resounding welcome by market women and traders.
While speaking with the traders, who were mostly women, the NDC’s Vice Presidential candidate, Prof Jane Nana expressed concern about the cost of food and emphasized that John Dramani Mahama and the NDC truly understand the needs of women and traders, claiming that businesses would thrive under an NDC administration if they won the 2024 elections.
Prof Jane discusses some of the initiatives made by the then Mahama administration to support traders.
“We built this market, we take care of women. We created and expanded this market and the market is for women”, she stated.
She voiced concern about the low sales recorded by traders and the rise in food prices, as reported to her.
Rafiatu Fuseini, an onion seller at the Wa Market, has shed light on how the economy affects their business and families.
Haruna Hamidu, a chief butcher, lamented the suffering and advocated for a change in governance. To him, it is time for the country to put in John Mahama and his 24-hour economy to help people.
Again, another trader, Nafisah Sombo said to Prof Jane Naana, “you have seen things for yourselves when you went round the market.
Some food items like fresh pepper, tomatoes, oil, and rice are scarce. The little available are costly and we can’t buy it.
In the era of John Mahama, a box of tomatoes was sold at a maximum of GHC500.00, but now is GHC1000.00 and GHC2000.00. A pack of Maggi cubes which used to be GHC15.00 is now sold at 50.00 all things are taking a toll on us”.
