We support ‘hands off our hotels’ demonstration – Minority
MINORITY IN PARLIAMENT URGE GHANAIANS TO JOIN “HANDS OFF OUR HOTELS” DEMONSTRATION ON TUESDAY
The Minority in Parliament says they massively support “Hands off Our Hotels” demonstration, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.
The protest is aimed at stopping the sale of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) hotels, including Labadi Beach Hotel, LA Palm Royal Beach Resort, Ride Royal Hotel, and Elmina Beach Resort to Rock City Hotel.
According to a statement signed by Chief Whip, Governs Kwame Agbodza, the Minority believes that the move to sell off these hotels is wrong and unacceptable.
The statement urged the public to join the demonstration to send a strong signal to the government that the people of Ghana take exception to this shady deal.
The Minority claims that the government’s plan to sell off these profitable state-owned hotels shows a serious breach of the public’s trust in their ability to manage and protect national assets.

The portion of the statement read: “We want to use this opportunity to indicate the Minority’s strong opposition to the sale of these hotels to Hon. Bryan Acheampong and urge the public to join Tuesday’s “Hands Off Our Hotels Demonstration” to send a strong signal to the government that the people of Ghana take exception to this shady deal. Enough is enough!”
The demonstration will start from Labadi Beach Hotel and proceed to Jubilee House, where organizers will present their demands to the presidency. The Minority hopes that the public will join forces with them to stop this perceived injustice and protect Ghana’s national assets.
The sale of SSNIT hotels has been met with widespread opposition from many Ghanaians, who believe that it is a betrayal of the trust placed in the government by previous governments.
The Minority’s stance on this issue is a clear testament that they will not sit idly by while national assets are sold off without a fight.
It remains to be seen whether the government will heed the call of the Minority and put a stop to this deal or continue down a path that has been criticized as “shady” and “unacceptable”.
