President Mahama Visits Vice President Naana Jane on Mother’s Day in UK

On Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama paid a visit to Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang in the United Kingdom, where she is recuperating after a recent illness. The visit marked a heartfelt gesture from the President, coinciding with a day that celebrates motherhood and maternal bonds.
President Mahama took to Facebook to share a moment from the visit, posting a photo of himself with Prof. Opoku-Agyemang along with a touching message.
“A special Mother’s Day greeting to my Vice President, @njoagyemang, whom I had the pleasure of visiting earlier this morning,” he wrote. “She is taking a deserved rest after recovering from illness and looking forward to resuming her duties soon.”
He also extended warm wishes to mothers across the country: “To her and all Ghanaian mothers, I say Happy Mother’s Day.”
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reportedly suffered a sudden illness on Friday, March 28, 2025. She sought initial medical care at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) the next day. Following a detailed medical assessment, her doctors recommended that she travel abroad for further observation and treatment. The decision was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure her full recovery.
Based on her medical team’s advice, she commenced a three-week medical leave on April 7, 2025. The leave has allowed her to focus on resting, prioritising her health and well-being.
The President’s visit not only served to check on her recovery but also highlighted the strength of their professional and personal relationship. As she continues her recuperation, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is reportedly in high spirits and looking forward to returning to her official duties soon.
