President Mahama to Launch Adwumawura Programme today

President John Mahama is expected to launch the flagship initiative, ‘Adwumawura’, in Kumasi today, April 28, at the Prempeh Assembly Hall.
This is to acknowledge the start of a bold new push to address youth unemployment and promote entrepreneurial growth across Ghana. The Adwumawura Programme is a special business start-up initiative aimed at facilitating, tracking, and mentoring of at least 10,000 businesses every year, with significant attention on empowering young people.
It will be led by the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment through the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP).
Focusing on Ghanaian youth aged 18-35, the Adwumawura programme pledge to enable the next generation with the tools to start, grow, and sustain their businesses. A vital resource for economic empowerment.
Adwumawura a key component of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s 2024 manifesto, outlining the party’s unwavering commitment to create 250,000 jobs annually through various initiatives, involving the highly-promoted “Edwuma Pa” programme.
By prioritizing entrepreneurship, skills development, and digital innovation, Mahama’s administration seeks to revamp the youths in Ghana youth at the forefront of national economic development.
Backing this ambition, the 2025 Budget Statement presented by Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson in March directed a large GH₵100 million to begin the Adwumawura programme. The dual approach is designed to deal with youth unemployment challenged by blending formal entrepreneurial support with hands-on training.
Moving on, the administration is enhancing the offer for new business: start-ups will enjoy a two-year tax exemption benefit for businesses and individuals to ease the early financial burden of new ventures.
George Opare Addo, the Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment, in a video message shared on Sunday,reiterated the Government’s unwavering dedication.
George Opare Addo said that “In the run-up to the 2024 election, we promised to create decent and sustainable jobs for young people. Today, we are honouring that promise with action.”
