Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, the Interior Minister
Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, the Interior Minister has been summoned by Parliament to present oneself before the House tomorrow, March 25, 2025, to inform members on situation resulting to the search of the residence of the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Ernest Addison, last Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, the Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament, declared this when he presented the Business Statement for the following week on the Parliamentary chamber last Friday. He said that “Mr Speaker, the Business Committee has scheduled the Minister for the Interior to inform the House on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, on the situation resulting to the raid of the residence of the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Ernest Addison, on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.”
“Honourable Members should be aware and avail themselves for the briefing on the stated date,” as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast South remarked. A group of armed individuals said to be security operatives last Wednesday dawn reportedly raided Dr Addison’s residence at Roman Ridge looking for money in suspected vault.
As a result of the incident, the Minority in Parliament organized a media briefing at the Parliament House last Thursday to denounce what they referred to as pattern of unlawful raids focusing on appointees of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, who spoke at the media briefing referred to a similar incident where another prominent figure who was a former official had also been a victim of a similar raid .
He stated that “First was a raid on the home of the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, led by Richard Jakpa, a known NDC activist, who describes himself as Director of Operations at the National Security.” Mr Afenyo-Markin expressed these raids were being carried out in a way that infringed on the rights of the individuals involved.
In the aftermath of the incident, some government officials, together with the Deputy Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, have expressed it was a search that was carried out at the private residence of the former Governor of the BoG within the framework of the ongoing investigations.
