No salary increase approved for teachers

Public sector works including teachers are to note that no salary increase has been approved to take effect any time soon. There is news making rounds of a supposed salary increase approved for public sector workers.
The message reads:
Salary and Labour Commission has agreed with the Labour Unions on 12.5% salary increment taking effect from January 2021. The 10% professional Development Allowance will be paid every month, beginning January this year.
Salary negotiation for minimum wage and base pay will be done in April 2021 by the Joint Standing Negotiating Committee (JSNC).
The budget read by the Government at the latter part of last year,2020, was to take care of the transitional period after the General Elections and that budget covers the first quarter of 2021 (i.e January to March 2021).
When the last budget was read before the General Elections, the budget was silent on salary increases or otherwise.
One other issue considered by the meeting of the Committee (JSNC) was the setbacks from the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy (reduction in productivity, revenue generation, among others).

No increase or otherwise has yet been determined for public sector workers since there had not been any Negotiation on same.
The information making rounds on social media quoting some percentages agreed on for 2021 should be disregarded.
Let’s stop circulating it further.
