Movenpick Ambassador Hotel launches human rights advocacy campaign to reform hospitality sector

Accra, Ghana, August 22, 2025 —Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel unveiled a major human rights advocacy campaign today, targeting systemic issues in the hospitality industry, including forced labor, child exploitation, unfair wages, and unsafe working conditions.
The initiative, themed “Unveiling and Uprooting Human Rights Risks in Hospitality Ecosystems,” aims to enforce ethical practices across operations and supply chains.
Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, Minister of Labour, Jobs, and Employment, officiated the launch, emphasizing that human rights are critical to national development.
“Fair wages, safe workplaces, and non-discrimination are not optional—they’re essential for progress,” he stated, pledging stricter enforcement of labor laws and protections against exploitation.
Edmund Amarkwei Foley, Executive Director of the Legal Aid Commission, delivered the keynote address, highlighting risks such as workplace harassment, discrimination against women and minorities, and poor safety standards.
He urged hotels to adopt zero-tolerance policies, enhance staff training, and prioritize eco-friendly practices.
Isaac Okpoti Adjei, Esq., Mövenpick’s General Manager, called for industry-wide adoption of due diligence tools, including supplier audits, digital traceability, and whistleblowing channels.
“Ethical operations build trust and drive long-term success,” he said, stressing collaboration with NGOs, unions, and regulators.
The event, held at Mövenpick’s Accra property, drew policymakers, legal experts, and civil society leaders, signaling broad support for the campaign.
Stakeholders aim to set a new standard for the hospitality sector, aligning luxury with accountability and justice.
