News we are gathering at newsghana24.com suggests that Martin Amidu, the Special Prosecutor is now leading the race to become the running mate for the National Democratic Congress. He has become the obvious choice and the best card for the NDC against the rulling NPP for the 2020 general elections. 

Special Prosecutor as Mahama’s Running mate?

Martin  Amidu, who is officially a member of the NDC has been a die-hard fighter of corruption while the NDC was in government and in opposition as well.

His quest to ensure the public purse is protected convinced the president of Ghana to appoint him as the Special Prosecutor. Although he has not been able to bite enough to chew as the Special Prosecutor, his personality, beliefs and fight against corruption will be key for the NDC  if he is finally revealed to the general public as the running mate of the NDC’s, John Dramani Mahama.

This pairing for the NDC know will increase their chances of winning the 2020 election and show to Ghanaians that, they are ready to fight and uproot corruption the biggest set back of development in Ghana.

Will Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu consider the running mate job? 

The Special Presecutor may accept the offer and that will turn the fortunes of the NDC around on issues regarding curruption as we head into the election year.

Under the presidency of the ruling NPP, the  Special Prosecutor has lamented that, he has not been given the room to operate. If he is unveiled as the running mate of NDC for the 2020 presidential election, he will sweep both floating voters and some NPP faithfuls who want to see corrupt officials dealt with into the NDC.

Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu must consider the decision if he has to make it and decide his faith with the option presented to him. It was once his ambition to be given this chance to be the running mate and possibly the vice president.

However, a North-North presidential combination may spark some criticism for the NDC if it decided to have Martin Amidu as the running mate for John Dramani Mahama. This in itself is not a bad idea as Martin Amidu would help Mahama deal with corruption in government and change the face and fortunes of the NDC for good. 

It has been long overdue for the NDC to reveal this magic card in the name of Martin Amidu they have held so close to the chest.

Another equally good match for John Dramani Mahama have come up in recent times. Professor Kwesi Botchwey, Ghana’s longest-serving Finance Minister was said to have been the running mate of Mahama however, this happened to be false. 

Other names including Asiedu Nketia, the general secretary of the NDC also popped up only for the NDC to deny it. The truth is probably now out. Has the NDC made the choice now? Only time will tell.
