Koo Ofori Arrested, Granted Bail After Alleged Investment Scam

Veteran Ghanaian actor Samuel Seth Kwabena Kyere Karikari, popularly known as Koo Ofori from the hit TV series Efiewura, has been granted bail in the sum of GHC 320,000 with three guarantors by the Dansoman District Court. The bail was granted following his arrest on charges of defrauding a US-based Ghanaian of $50,000.
Koo Ofori was taken into custody by the Accra Central Police Command after the complainant, who resides in California, reported that the actor had failed to honour a financial agreement. According to the police, the money was allegedly given to Koo Ofori to facilitate a legitimate investment opportunity. However, he reportedly failed to pay back and went into hiding.
The complainant made a formal complaint after multiple failed attempts to get the money. Further investigations revealed that Koo Ofori had also ignored a prior summons to appear before the Dansoman District Court on April 17, 2025. As a result, a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.
Koo Ofori was arrested on May 9, 2025, and a video of the arrest quickly made rounds on social media. He remained in police custody over the weekend and appeared before the Dansoman Circuit Court on Monday, May 12, 2025.
During his court appearance, the actor pleaded not guilty to the charge of defrauding by false pretences. The court subsequently granted him bail, requiring three credible guarantors to guarantee his compliance with future court proceedings.
The case has attracted public attention due to Koo Ofori’s high profile in the Ghanaian entertainment industry. Legal proceedings are expected to continue as authorities work to resolve the matter.
