Indiana Basketball Roster Expected to Undergo Major Changes This Offseason
The Indiana Hoosiers men’s basketball team is expected to undergo significant changes this offseason, as several players may leave the program.
The team finished the 2020-2021 season with a 12-15 record, which has prompted head coach Mike Woodson to make some necessary adjustments.
One of the key changes could involve the departure of star player Trayce Jackson-Davis. The 6-foot-9 forward, who led the Hoosiers in scoring and rebounding last season, has been projected as a first-round pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. Jackson-Davis has yet to confirm whether he will enter the draft or return to Indiana for another season.
Another potential departure is sophomore guard Armaan Franklin, who announced his intention to enter the transfer portal in late March. Franklin was the team’s second-leading scorer last season, averaging 11.4 points per game. He cited a desire to “explore new opportunities” as the reason for his decision.
In addition to the potential departures, Indiana has already added some new players to its roster. The team recently landed transfers Xavier Johnson and Miller Kopp, who could provide some much-needed scoring and experience. Johnson, a point guard against Pittsburgh, averaged 14.2 points and 5.7 assists per game last season. Kopp, a forward from Northwestern, has scored over 1,000 career points in the Big Ten Conference.
Despite the expected changes, Coach Woodson remains optimistic about the team’s future. He has emphasized the importance of building a winning culture and recruiting top-level talent to the program.
“I’m excited about the future of Indiana basketball,” Woodson said in a recent statement. “We have a great group of returning players and some talented new additions. Our goal is to build a championship team that Hoosier Nation can be proud of.”
As the offseason progresses, Indiana basketball fans will be keeping a close eye on the roster changes and potential new additions. The team will need to make some significant improvements to compete at the highest level in the Big Ten Conference.
