GRASAG endorses Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy
The National President of the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG), Emmanuel Owusu, has enthusiastically endorsed the 24-hour economy concept proposed by John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Emmanuel Owusu believes this initiative could revolutionize Ghana’s economic landscape by enabling businesses to operate continuously, thereby enhancing productivity, competitiveness, and job opportunities.
During a presentation of the GRASAG research report titled “The 24-Hour Economy,” Owusu shared his insights on the profound impact this policy could have, particularly in fields like information technology and internet accessibility—critical components in today’s digital era.
The proposed shift to a round-the-clock operational framework is expected to not only boost economic activities but also align with Ghana’s socio-economic goals, driving innovation, attracting foreign investments, and fostering sustainable growth.

Owusu highlighted the necessity of improving internet services to support this ambitious policy, citing recent challenges during an internet crisis which underscored the vulnerability of relying on inadequate digital infrastructure.
“If we want to implement a 24-hour economy, we might want to look at that,” he noted, stressing the importance of robust internet connectivity.
The GRASAG leader expressed hope that, should Mahama be re-elected, the former president would consider integrating the insights and recommendations from their report into his administration’s policy framework.
“Implementing a 24-hour economy will not only increase productivity and create jobs but also enhance service delivery and position Ghana as a formidable global competitor,” Owusu stated.
The endorsement from GRASAG underscores a collective optimism among graduate students about the transformative potential of a 24-hour economy for Ghana, signaling strong academic support for Mahama’s forward-thinking economic policies.
